A Win for One is a Win for All

Sunday Night at Citifield

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you…

…our 2015 World Series winners!  And while most of you may think it's a nice little thing to happen to a nice little team (unless you're a Mets fan) I say "But wait, there's more..."

The last time this team won a Title was 30 years ago.  That was during the 80's when Reagan was in office and Taylor Swift wasn't even a glimmer in her parents' eyes.  It was a much different time, and many of the players weren't even born or barely out of their diapers.  For years this team, and city, worked their way through their own challenges, defeats and eventual victories to make it oh so close last year.  How close?  The World Series.
How'd it go?
They lost.

All that time and energy working on a common goal, only to be trumped by another team with a similar focus.  Competition.  Frustration.  So close to victory.  Little glimmers of hope that were eventually overshadowed by Defeat.  They had their Chance and it didn't work out.  Now it was time to regroup and refocus as that moment faded into the off-season.

Time passed, but they came back a year later to finish the business (winning 95 games along the way).  They didn't quit.  They didn't give up.  And if you've had a chance to watch any of the games, many times they were down to their last outs but dug in and fought back.  They were focused and determined and a little bit lucky.  Just like on last Sunday against the Mets.  They came back from the brink to take the crown, and up against one of the best opponents in the game.

Like the Royals, one of my best buddies always had the dream to work for a Major League Sports team.  For years I saw him work on that dream, doing all sorts of things to make that wish a reality.  Like those guys, he faced the same things they did:  Competition.  Frustration.  Small victories along the way.  Little glimmers of hope that were eventually overshadowed by Defeat.
But you know what?...

He got his chance, he got his wish, and I can't think of a better team than the Royals to do that with.  And while I'm only a step away from his amazing experience, it's an honor and a pleasure to see him finally get his wish.  It just means that things are possible.  After all, if it can happen for him and the Royals, why can't it happen for us in our own pursuits?

With Love,

Stuart
